During the Great Galactic War and the subsequent Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, a notorious pirate known as the Red Blade roamed the galaxy. This merciless killer's persona was then taken on by an operative within Imperial Intelligence. Upon learning of this impersonation, the real Blade journeyed to Nal Hutta to face the agent. However, the operative eliminated the true Blade when he threatened to expose the deception.
The Red Blade, a shadowy pirate always concealed in full body armor, was known for the crimson hue of their battle suit. They were active in the Outer Rim, specifically in the Ison Corridor, where they frequently attacked trade ships, even those with military protection. According to Imperial records, the Red Blade often visited clandestine ports such as Port Nowhere and Wild Byth's. The Blade seldom ventured out from their ship or the expensive suites they rented upon arrival, only making appearances during celebrations of their latest successful raid. At some point, the Blade crossed paths with Dheno Rey on Hoth, accruing a debt. The Zabrak later sought to collect this debt from the impostor.
During the Cold War era, an operative from Imperial Intelligence adopted the Red Blade's identity. This Imperial agent, aiming to persuade Nem'ro the Hutt to ally with the Sith Empire, acquired the identity through their Arcona contact, Jheeg. While on Nal Hutta, the agent encountered Dheno Rey in Jiguuna and was compelled to eliminate him when the Zabrak threatened to reveal their true identity.
The genuine Red Blade discovered the existence of the impostor on Hutta and dispatched their subordinates to plant a listening device in the agent's quarters. However, the agent detected and eliminated them. The agent maintained the alias until departing Nal Hutta, at which point Jheeg contacted them en route to Jiguuna's hangar. The Arcona informed the agent of the real Red Blade's impending arrival on the planet. Upon landing, the agent confronted the Red Blade, who threatened to expose the deception to Nem'ro. Consequently, the agent, along with the Rattataki Kaliyo Djannis, engaged and killed the pirate. With his dying breath, Red Blade cursed his impersonator.
Imperial Intelligence described the Red Blade as a ruthless and brutal individual, known for leaving few survivors after their attacks. The Blade was extremely cautious and distrustful, maintaining anonymity by always wearing complete body armor and a helmet. Imperial Intelligence also believed that the Blade had confided in a select group of trusted associates regarding their identity, while otherwise remaining in the shadows to maintain their cover.
The Red Blade makes an appearance in the BioWare MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic as part of the Imperial Agent storyline. The player character, with assistance from their Arcona contact Jheeg, assumes the Red Blade's identity to gain access to Nem'ro's palace. During their stay on Nal Hutta, the player is confronted by Dheno Rey, who threatens to expose the agent's deception. The player then has the choice to bribe him or eliminate him.
As the player prepares to depart Nal Hutta, Jheeg informs them that the true Red Blade is currently en route to Hutta. The player confronts the pirate in his hangar and eliminates him to protect their assumed identity.
If the player attempts to persuade the Red Blade that they were coerced into playing the role, the Red Blade will offer them a weapon and challenge them to a duel, stating that they can at least die 'like one of the blades'. This might suggest that the Red Blade could be a hereditary title, or that he belonged to a group of 'Blades', or both; however, this has not been officially confirmed.
