Rebel Dream

The Rebel Dream was a New Republic Navy Imperial-class Star Destroyer. Initially, it served the Imperial Navy under the name Tyrant.

History

Imperial service

Captain Lennox and Lieutenant Cabbel on the Tyrant at the Battle of Hoth

The Tyrant, an Imperial Star Destroyer, was assigned to Darth Vader's Death Squadron. It was under the command of the skilled Captain Xamuel Lennox, with Lieutenant Cabbel as his executive officer.

The Tyrant participated in the Battle of Turkana in 1 BBY, being one of ten Imperial Star Destroyers present.

As part of Death Squadron, the ship engaged Warlord Nuso Esva's forces in the Poln system eight months following the Battle of Yavin.

During the Battle of Hoth, the Tyrant attempted to stop the initial Rebel transports as they fled Hoth, but was crippled by multiple shots from the Rebels' planetary ion cannon. Lennox's command was left adrift in the system, allowing more Rebel transports to escape.

While the battle raged on the surface, Imperial forces captured Rebel General Crix Madine and brought him aboard the Tyrant. As the shuttle entered the Tyrant's docking bay, the ship was struck again by the planetary ion cannon. While Lennox oversaw repairs to the damaged systems, Rebel commandos infiltrated the ship and rescued Madine. They escaped with the General on a Lambda-class shuttle, with the Tyrant unable to give chase. Later, the shuttle delivered Madine to the Mon Calamari Cruiser Champion, which was preparing to jump to hyperspace. Lennox, with the now repaired Tyrant, engaged the cruiser and launched TIE fighters in anticipation of battle. Lennox contacted the Champion, offering to call off the attack if they surrendered Madine. The captain of the Champion refused and ordered his own fighters to launch. Unable to defeat the Champion, Captain Lennox watched as the ship escaped with Madine.

4 ABY saw Captain Lennox and the Tyrant participating in the Battle of Endor.

New Republic service

Subsequently, after the Bacta War, the New Republic seized the Tyrant from a lightly defended Imperial resupply station. Impressed by the symbolism of the Star Destroyer's history with Vader's Death Squadron, Councilor Leia Organa renamed the ship Rebel Dream and designated it as her personal flagship.

By 7 ABY, the Rebel Dream served as the consular ship of Minister of State Leia Organa Solo, but it returned to combat during the Battle of Storinal against the Imperial Star Destroyer Peremptory. The Imperial forces managed to recapture the Rebel Dream during this battle.

Yuuzhan Vong War

The New Republic had regained control of the Rebel Dream by the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War.

Under the command of General Wedge Antilles, the Rebel Dream served at Borleias. During the siege of Borleias, the Rebel Dream's starfighters and support ships were painted in a white-and-dark-gray scheme. Later, it joined the fleet of the newly formed Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, taking part in the defense of Mon Calamari.

Behind the scenes

In the Star Wars Encyclopedia, the image of the Tyrant shows a barely visible inscription on the hull that reads, "We Break For Nobody." This echoes a similar phrase, "We Brake for Nobody," found on the massive starship Spaceball One in the 1987 parody movie Spaceballs.
