Ratamesh was a celestial body situated within the Ratamesh system. This system existed within the Farstey sector, which itself was located in the Trans-Hydian section of the Expansion Region. The Thisspias alcazar, a building named after the sector planet of Thisspias in Farstey, was located there.
In the year 186 BBY, the Blood Monarch of Thisspias, who was reigning at the time and also the sister of the Thisspiasian Jedi Oppo Rancisis, resided at the Thisspias alcazar found on Ratamesh. During that year, the alcazar was stormed by revolutionaries who killed the Blood Monarch. Consequently, Rancisis inherited the throne of Thisspias, but he chose to abdicate in order to continue his Jedi training.
The reference book titled The New Essential Guide to Characters, penned by Daniel Wallace and released on April 23, 2002, marked the initial appearance of Ratamesh. Later, in 2009, the reference book The Essential Atlas specified the Ratamesh system's location, and thus Ratamesh's location, as grid square O-8.
Within The New Essential Guide to Characters, the preposition "in" is used alongside the proper name "Ratamesh" when providing context for the Thisspias alcazar, suggesting that they were both locations on Thisspias. Conversely, in the Power of the Jedi Sourcebook, a Wizards of the Coast roleplaying game supplement published in August 2002 for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, the majority of the phrasing regarding Ratamesh from The New Essential Guide to Characters is retained, but the preposition "on" is used instead, implying that it was a separate astronomical object from Thisspias. This article operates under the assumption that the latter source is the correct one.
