Pitrillistian language

A linguistic system was employed by the Pitrillistians, a sapient species indigenous to the remote Outer Rim Territories world of Pitrillistia. This system primarily involved buzz-like vocalizations generated by the diminutive wings situated beneath the two-part exoskeletons of the Pitrillistians. These sounds of the language possessed a melodic quality.

Behind the scenes

Desset Fabien originated the Pitrillistians and their mode of communication through the "Design An Alien" contest featured in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine. This contest, which began in the magazine's third edition during April of 1995, challenged participants to devise entirely new alien species that drew inspiration from the Star Wars original trilogy films. Fabien, at the age of nineteen, submitted their Pitrillistians concept, which was subsequently published in the seventh edition in April of 1996, within the "honorable mentions" section under the "16 and up" age group. Lucasfilm staff member Leland Chee, the curator of the Holocron continuity database, later affirmed that content published from the "Design An Alien" competition was regarded as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.
