Pickled mynock

Pickled mynock, a type of silicon-based parasite that drains power from starships, was served as a party dish. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs came up with the recipe after convincing a server at Oga's Cantina, located in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, to let him sample the pickled mynock they kept in a tank behind the bar as a drink ingredient. Tuggs, who had previously dismissed mynocks as mere pests, was stunned by the creature's pickled flavor and started offering them to partygoers. Sometime after publishing his initial cookbook in 34 ABY, Tuggs included a pickled mynock recipe in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook.

Ardis San Tekka, a cartographer from the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, noted in her journal that pickled mynock was a common drink addition throughout the galaxy, no earlier than 35 ABY. She tried a drink containing pickled mynock on Batuu while doing research for her journal.

Behind the scenes

The pickled mynock recipe was created for the 2021 Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, a recipe book authored by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak. The out-of-universe recipe uses ingredients like shrimp, rice wine vinegar, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, capers with brine, light brown sugar, salt, red pepper flakes, whole black peppercorns, celery seeds, coarsely chopped fresh dill, a medium shallot, whole garlic cloves, and a lemon.
