Ohnaka Gang

The pirate group known as the Ohnaka Gang, which was also called Hondo's Gang or the Hondo Ohnaka pirate gang, and at times the Weequay pirates, was a band of pirates operating under the leadership of Hondo Ohnaka. They were based on the Outer Rim planet of Florrum during the Clone Wars. Despite frequently being called Weequay pirates, members of the gang also included Nikto, Bith, Jawa, and Ishi Tib individuals. The RA-7 protocol droid 4A-2R was considered a valuable asset to the group.

Although the gang managed to maintain operations throughout the Clone Wars, it ceased to exist during the rise of the Galactic Empire, the reasons for which are unknown. During the Imperial Era, Ohnaka continued his activities, but his scale was reduced to that of a minor pirate and smuggler. During the Empire's rule, the gang reformed under the command of Captain Skragg, who asserted that he was even more ruthless than Ohnaka had been.

History

Capture of Dooku

Kidnapping for profits

Ohnaka with several of his pirates

During the period of the Clone Wars, Captain Hondo Ohnaka led the gang in the Outer Rim. They conducted raids on starships and kidnapped travelers for ransom from their base located on Florrum. During a stopover on Vanqor, Count Dooku, the Sith Lord and Separatist Head of State, approached Ohnaka and his gang. Ohnaka's group subsequently captured Dooku and transported him to Florrum. During the journey, the pirates managed to steal Dooku's lightsaber and Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber. Despite Dooku's attempts to intimidate them, Ohnaka and his gang were able to overwhelm him due to their superior numbers.

Ohnaka then contacted Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and demanded a payment of one million in spice. After Senator Padmé Amidala requested that two Jedi verify Dooku's captivity, Ohnaka insisted they arrive unarmed. When Obi-Wan Kenobi and Skywalker arrived, Ohnaka and his gang searched them for weapons. Despite Skywalker's efforts to retrieve his lightsaber, Ohnaka's crew escorted them to Dooku. After confirming Dooku's capture, the pirates hosted a banquet for the Jedi, during which they drugged Kenobi and Skywalker and tied them up alongside Dooku. Ohnaka instructed Turk Falso to greet Senator Kharrus and lead them to their complex.

Escape attempts and a Gungan's moves

However, Falso, Barb Mentir, and other pirates conspired to steal the ransom from the Republic. Mentir shot down the Republic transport and informed Falso about the survivors. Falso, Mentir, and several other pirates went to deal with the survivors, concealing their actions from Ohnaka. During this period, Ohnaka and his gang successfully prevented Kenobi, Skywalker, and Dooku from escaping. Falso and his team managed to steal the ransom but lost it when Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks and Commander Stone's escort recovered it. Falso reported this to Ohnaka, claiming that the Republic was launching an attack with an army and would deliver the ransom. Ohnaka dispatched several tanks to engage the Republic forces while he personally dealt with the Jedi.

The tank crews dispatched by Ohnaka encountered only Representative Binks and attempted to capture him. Binks inadvertently seized control of one of the tanks, causing the power grid to fail, until he was held at gunpoint. The pirates, viewing him as a saboteur, decided to execute him, but Commander Stone and his troopers subdued them. Ohnaka and his remaining pirates subjected the Jedi to torture until the power went out. Kenobi and Skywalker managed to retrieve their lightsabers and take Ohnaka as a hostage. During this time, Dooku managed to slip away. Dooku strangled Falso and forced him to shoot Mentir, who were also attempting to flee the compound, and escaped on a pirate ship. As Kenobi and Skywalker escorted Ohnaka toward the Twilight, accompanied by Binks and Stone's troops, Ohnaka was released in exchange for allowing them to leave. Kenobi warned that Dooku might return to seek vengeance.

Further actions in a galactic war

The Ohnaka Gang observes the Jedi

Ohnaka and his gang journeyed to Felucia, where they attempted to coerce a farming village into surrendering their nysillin crops. Ohnaka and his gang were compelled to confront the farmers, as well as hired bounty hunters and Jedi Master Kenobi, Knight Skywalker, and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano. Ohnaka's attempt to bribe the bounty hunters failed, and he rejected Kenobi's offer of Republic credits. Consequently, Ohnaka and his gang launched an assault on the village. Unfortunately, the farmers, Jedi, and bounty hunters forced the pirates to retreat.

Ohnaka and his gang later encountered Ohnaka's former girlfriend, Aurra Sing, and Jango Fett's son, Boba, an old friend of Ohnaka. Ohnaka declined to assist Sing and Fett in their quest for revenge against Windu, but he promised that he and his men would not obstruct them either. Ohnaka and his men permitted Master Plo Koon and Padawan Tano to land. After Sing's escape, Ohnaka and his men allowed Tano to use one of their bikes to pursue her. Ohnaka successfully persuaded Fett to reveal the location of Slave I to Koon and Tano. After Tano forced Slave I to crash, Ohnaka extracted Sing from the wreckage and salvaged the ship.

The pirates subsequently attacked the Crucible, ambushing the crew with the intention of stealing kyber crystals for a substantial profit. They captured Tano, but she was eventually freed by the group of Jedi younglings. Shortly afterward, General Grievous and an army of battle droids, seeking retribution for Ohnaka's capture of Dooku earlier in the war, arrived on Florrum, compelling the pirates and Jedi to unite against their common adversary. Although Ohnaka, accompanied by several of his pirates, the Jedi, R2-D2, and Professor Huyang, escaped the planet aboard the Slave I, allowing him to return the Jedi and their droids to a Republic task force and unsuccessfully attempt to barter with Kenobi, Grievous's attack left the pirate operation in ruins.

The reunited gang attacks the renegade Sith Lords

Later, self-proclaimed Sith Lords Maul and Savage Opress appeared. They took advantage of the greed of some of Ohnaka's pirates to create their own faction, leading to a civil war between the pirates who were loyal to the Sith and those who remained loyal to Ohnaka. Kenobi, along with Jedi Master Adi Gallia, returned to the planet while tracking Maul, resulting in the two Jedi joining the skirmish. Although Gallia was killed during the fighting by Oppress, the rogue pirates rejoined Ohnaka after they were trapped at gunpoint, with the captain explaining that the Sith were only interested in Kenobi. With his gang reunited, Ohnaka and his pirates fired on the two dark side adepts as they fled, even bringing down their YV-865 Aurore-class freighter with a rocket launcher. As his men scavenged the cargo from the Sith Lords' transport, Ohnaka was left with the impression that the two Force-sensitives had been killed, though Kenobi correctly assumed they had survived.

Imperial Era

The Tonnika sisters once secretly boarded an Ohnaka Gang starship. Some time after the Galactic Empire's formation, the Ohnaka Gang was disbanded. However, by the time of the aftermath of the Battle of Hoth, the gang had reformed under the leadership of a pirate named Skragg.
