Oggem Baobab

Oggem Baobab, called "Old Ogger" by those who knew him locally, was a Human male prospector and a member of the Baobab family. Back in 75 BBY, he journeyed to the planet Roon in pursuit of Roonstones. Though he managed to unearth a quantity—equivalent to six bags—his freighter suffered a crash, stranding him. For the subsequent sixty years, he relentlessly sought the stones' origin, but his efforts proved fruitless.

In 15 BBY, nearing his end, he received a visit from his great-nephew, Mungo Baobab. Oggem entrusted Mungo with his tools and implored him to persist in the quest. Mungo agreed; however, he ultimately prioritized the safety of his companions over the search, adhering to his uncle's parting advice. Eventually, Mungo located the source, only to witness its destruction during a skirmish with the forces of the Galactic Empire.

Biography

Searching for Roonstones

Oggem Baobab, a Human male prospector hailing from the Baobab family, a well-regarded clan native to the planet Manda. In 75 BBY, Baobab embarked on an expedition to the planet Roon, driven by an intense desire to discover the source of the precious Roonstones. Although he succeeded in finding Roonstones on Roon, his agricultural freighter met with disaster and he was marooned in the area known as the Bantha Graveyard. It was presumed that he had disappeared. While marooned, he managed to fill six bags with Roonstones, but, despite his near success, he never discovered their original source.

Mungo meets his great-uncle, Old Ogger.

Sixty years later, in 15 BBY, Baobab remained stranded in his freighter, his death rapidly approaching. By this point, some believed the freighter was haunted. Mungo Baobab, Oggem's great-nephew, had also begun searching for Roonstones and traveled to Oggem's starship, where the two met. Oggem welcomed his nephew and his companions, one of whom was Auren Yomm, a Roon local. Yomm recognized him as "Old Ogger," whom Mungo's companions only knew as a local hermit. Mungo attempted to inquire about the Roonstones, but Oggem requested that he draw closer due to his failing eyesight. Upon doing so, Oggem noticed that he was wearing the uniform of the Baobab Merchant Fleet. Mungo then introduced himself, surprised that Oggem had recognized the fleet's colors.

Oggem revealed his name, which Mungo recognized, recalling that his great-uncle had embarked on an expedition for Roonstones sixty years before. Oggem recounted the story of his ship's crash and the Roonstones he had found, relieved to finally share his dream with another person. Aware that his death was imminent, he passed his equipment and six bags of Roonstones to Mungo, entrusting him with completing his life's mission of finding the stones' source. He then imparted one final piece of wisdom, reminding Mungo to never value treasure over friends and family, a lesson he himself had learned. He subsequently passed away from old age, with his nephew wishing him peace in death.

Legacy

Mungo continued to follow his great-uncle's advice and use his equipment after his death.

Mungo, Yomm, and their two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO, subsequently departed the ship and ventured outside to examine Oggem's legacy. Inside Oggem's pouch, they discovered a memling, a versatile, stretchy material; a seed launcher, a type of blaster; and a small pyramid that Mungo believed held a clue to the Roonstones' source. He desired to pursue this clue in order to fulfill his uncle's last wish, and, despite Yomm's reservations, he remained steadfast.

Later that day, after the clues to the Roonstones led Mungo to the Roon Sea, his boat was caught in a whirlpool. To save his friends and himself, he was compelled to discard the six bags of Roonstones, heeding his uncle's final advice to prioritize his friends. This advice continued to influence Mungo when he realized that he valued saving Yomm from the Imperial Governor Bisad Koong over the Roonstone quest. Even after all the Roonstones were destroyed in a fight against the Empire, Mungo felt content, as he had met Yomm as a result of his journey.

Personality and traits

Oggem Baobab was consumed by his pursuit of Roonstones, a quest he maintained for six decades. His ultimate counsel to his great-nephew stressed the importance of friendship and valuing it above material wealth.
