Nam'ta

Nam'ta, a gas giant, resided within the Nam'ta system. This system was situated within the Outer Rim Territories' Atrivis sector. Distinct bands of red, orange, and white were formed by the planet's cloud formations. During the era of the Galactic War, this planet was inhabited. This war was fought between the Galactic Republic and the resurgent Sith Empire. A local government held authority over Nam'ta. At this time, a local organization plotted to disseminate thousands of Republic diplomatic communications, which led a Republic ally to implore the local government to suppress the organization's activities.

Description

The gas giant known as Nam'ta displayed cloud formations creating bands of red, orange, and white hues. It was a gas giant located within the Nam'ta system, which itself was a part of the Atrivis sector in the Outer Rim Territories. This celestial body was positioned along the Relgim Run, a hyperlane that traversed the Atrivis sector after detaching from the Braxant Run. On this hyperlane, Nam'ta was bordered by the Markbee's Star system towards the Coreward direction and by the Horuz system on its Rimward side.

History

By the time the Galactic War erupted between the Galactic Republic and the resurgent Sith Empire, Nam'ta was already inhabited and governed by its own government. Around 3643 BBY, an independent organization situated on the planet asserted to possess thousands of Republic diplomatic holorecords and intended to release the data to the HoloNet.

During that period, a Republic-aligned individual visited Nam'ta and successfully persuaded the local government to crack down on the organization.

Millennia later, during the Galactic Civil War, Nam'ta fell within the territory of the Pentastar Alignment, under the control of Grand Moff Ardus Kaine.

Behind the scenes

Notable appearances

Nam'ta was conceived for the 1998 PC game Star Wars: Rebellion, standing out as the sole planet original to that game. Every other planet featured had been previously introduced in the Expanded Universe. This, coupled with the prevalence of spelling inaccuracies within the game, suggests the possibility that the intended planet was actually Namra, a gas giant within the Bacrana system. Star Wars: Rebellion utilizes a standard image to depict Nam'ta; this same image is also used for Annaj, Bespin, and Engira within the game. In the in-game encyclopedia entry for Nam'ta in Star Wars: Rebellion, the Atrivis sector is erroneously spelled as "Artivis."

Nam'ta received a later mention in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game created by BioWare and launched in 2011. The game's situation on the planet was used as a possible location for Republic-aligned players to assign one of their companions on individual quests.

Star Wars: Rebellion cartography

Hyperspace travel times between each planet in the game are provided by Star Wars: Rebellion. However, in several instances these times are significantly longer than other canonical sources, which seems to reflect the Rebellion hyperspace times as game mechanics rather than actual figures. Below are Nam'ta's intra-sector hyperspace times and distance from Coruscant according to Rebellion using the game's fastest capital ship hyperdrives. This chart includes only planets canonically located in the Anoat sector, with the exception of Coruscant.
