Momi Andrell, a Human female of considerable fortune, was the offspring of Senator Wain Andrell. She dedicated herself to animal rights activism, supporting the Galactic Republic during the period known as the Cold War.
In the year 3643 BBY, Momi embarked on a rescue mission to the planet of Nar Shaddaa. Her goal was to save the Shanjaru, a non-sentient species facing imminent extinction. She was deeply disturbed to discover that Drooga the Hutt intended to use the Shanjaru as a culinary offering at his feast. Vehemently opposing him and all those who mistreated the Shanjaru, she began to deplete her father's vast resources. Employing mercenaries, including her acquaintance Tyrka, she sought to rescue the remaining Shanjaru and facilitate their repopulation, leaving Drooga a holorecording diatribe that lasted three hours. Subsequently, she sought the assistance of Doctor Lazhae, believing he would aid in smuggling the Shanjaru off-world. However, the doctor betrayed her, desiring to experiment on the Shanjaru, as he thought it would be proof of evolving sapience.
During her confinement by the deranged doctor, Momi became the subject of gruesome experiments, a fate she endured to spare Lazhae's "intelligent" vrblthers from similar treatment. As a smuggler arrived, seeking to thwart the doctor and retrieve a male Shanjaru for Drooga, Momi was injected with incurable diseases. The smuggler pledged to rescue her and put an end to the Doctor's cruel experiments, but Momi expressed indifference to revenge, desiring only to die because of her suffering. The Doctor offered payment to the smuggler in exchange for retaining the samples, but Momi implored the smuggler to retrieve them from the mad doctor. The smuggler commanded the doctor to relinquish the samples and then flee. After the doctor left, Momi expressed her gratitude to the smuggler and requested that the spacer deliver the samples to the Senate Tower on Coruscant, where Daru'da could clone the Shanjaru. She then begged the smuggler to end her life, seeking release from her agony. The smuggler urged her not to despair, suggesting that Momi's father might be able to provide her with treatment. Momi relented and agreed to attempt a recovery.
Later, Momi's father communicated to the smuggler that she was receiving care from the galaxy's foremost scientists, in the hope of finding a cure, while her more extreme objectives were temporarily suspended.
