Miy'til assault bomber

The Miy'til assault bomber functioned as a starfighter within the forces of the Hapes Consortium.

Characteristics

Drawing from the same Hapan design philosophies of velocity and nimbleness that gave rise to the smaller Miy'til starfighter, the Miy'til assault bomber presented an impressive combination of sublight speed and maneuverability. This placed its performance more in line with a heavy starfighter than a typical bomber.

Due to its atypical speed and agility for a bomber-class vessel, it demonstrated high effectiveness in both atmospheric and space combat environments, surpassing the capabilities of bombers in a similar class, such as the TIE bombers.

Its operational crew included a pilot, a gunner, and an astromech droid.

History

The Hapes Consortium utilized it so infrequently that, even as late as 25 ABY, external powers had a limited understanding of its capabilities. Consequently, the vessel often became an unpleasant surprise during initial combat encounters.

Behind the scenes

According to Cracken's Threat Dossier (page 44), Nova-class battle cruisers possessed the capacity to transport six assault bombers, but the New Republic lacked specific intelligence regarding the bomber itself; the designation Miy'til was not used in the source material.

Starships of the Galaxy, Saga Edition indicates that the hyperdrive system was limited to jumps to only 5 coordinates stored by the astromech droid. While other sources do not explicitly mention this limitation, they also do not confirm whether the ship was equipped with a dedicated navcomputer.
