Mary Lylah "Mel" Sahr served as the casting director for the entirety of the Star Wars radio dramas trilogy. In addition to this role, she also took on the responsibilities of production coordinator for the initial two installments, namely Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. A significant achievement as casting director was her successful recruitment of Brock Peters for the voice of Darth Vader through a phone interview. Furthermore, she chose Ken Hiller as the narrator, rejecting Brian Daley's proposal to approach Orson Welles, due to concerns about Welles's reputation for being challenging to collaborate with. Sahr functioned as the production coordinator within the studio during the recording sessions for both Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.
Sahr was in charge of casting the concluding radio drama, Return of the Jedi, a decade plus later. She successfully brought back almost all the original voice actors for this production, but Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams were absent. In contrast to her work on the first two radio dramas, Sahr received no official credit for her contributions to this final installment.
