Medibeds served as treatment units for wounded individuals within Medical bays. The medcenter of the space station known as Starlight Beacon featured these medibeds as part of its equipment. During 231 BBY, Nihil's Tempest Runner, Lourna Dee, sustained injuries during a confrontation with Muglan while aboard the Republic correctional vessel named Restitution. Councilor Jon Wittick supervised Dee's medical care, which included treatment in a medibed.
The initial depiction of medibeds occurred in the Star Wars Insider short story titled "Starlight: First Duty" authored by Cavan Scott. This story was a component of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia endeavor and was released in Star Wars Insider 201 on March 30, 2021.
