Description

The MD-4's microsurgery appendage

A class one droid from Industrial Automaton, the MD-4 was part of the MD-series line of medical droids. Sharing aesthetic similarities with the 2-1B surgical droid, another product of Industrial Automaton, it stood at a height of 1.5 Imperial standard meters and featured a torso unit with two arms and a cranial unit. The legs were concealed by a surgical gown designed to protect vulnerable internal components. MD-4 droids were designed to be equally proficient with either hand.

Generally, MD-series droids exhibited gray plating accented with green. The photoreceptors were colored yellow. Priced at 2,000 credits, MD-4 units were available for purchase across the galaxy. A connection socket was located on the torso, allowing the droid to establish a direct link with a computer. The MD-4 utilized reduction servomotors and actuators, granting its arms the ability to execute slow, precise movements essential for performing intricate surgical procedures.

Role

The MD-4 droids were specifically engineered for surgical applications, featuring specialized microsurgical appendages, including miniaturized vibroscapels, flex clamps, and fiber optics.

History

Manufactured on the droid factory world of Telti, these droids were utilized by the Empire during the Galactic Civil War. An MD-4 droid was responsible for overseeing the surgical unit aboard the Imperial EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate named Far Orbit. Three MD-4 droids were under the command of Doctor Momaw Mowadan on the luxury liner known as the Kuari Princess. It was mentioned that Antar Roat, the alias used by Wedge Antilles to infiltrate Coruscant in 6 ABY, received treatment for combat injuries from MD-4 droids.
