The MD-2 represented a medical droid model and an element of the MD-series, both produced by Industrial Automaton. Its physical form exhibited a slight humanoid quality.
This particular droid type possessed a broad understanding of chemical processes and found application as an anesthesiologist's assistant, utilizing specialized tools suited for this purpose.
Industrial Automaton designed and sold the MD-2, a class one droid belonging to the MD-series family of medical droids. The MD-2, like other MD-series models, bore a design resemblance to the 2-1B surgical droid, another product of Industrial Automaton. With a height of 1.5 Imperial standard meters, the MD-2 featured a head unit connected to a torso with a pair of arms. Its lower portion was bipedal, with a surgical gown providing protection for the internal components. MD-2 droids were capable of using both hands with equal skill.
The Gray plating was typical for MD-series droids, accented with green and equipped with yellow photoreceptors. MD-2 units were generally priced at 2,000 credits and readily available for purchase across the galaxy. A connection port, located on the lower torso, enabled direct linking to a computer.

The intended function of MD-2 droids was as anaesthesiologists; they were outfitted with breath masks and anesthetic dispensing tools on their hands. During surgical procedures, MD-2 droids were responsible for monitoring vital signs and managing circulation, breathing, and the nervous system.
Manufactured on the droid factory planet of Telti, they found employment within the Empire during the Galactic Civil War. An MD-2 droid aboard the Imperial EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Far Orbit assisted the MD-4 droid with surgical tasks and consulted with the MD-1 on laboratory related issues. MD-2 droids also formed part of the medical staff aboard the luxury liner Kuari Princess, working alongside the head nurse, Calfta Bongi.
