The Echani's military technology proved too advanced; they implemented straightforward yet effective modifications to their light armor, neutralizing the Maktite's thermal weapons.
The Maktite's initial reference occurred within Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a computer roleplaying game created by BioWare in 2003. Although they don't physically appear in the game, they are referenced in the description of the Echani light armor. This armor also appears in the follow-up game, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, released in 2004.
