Maborn, a city situated on the planet of Mordal, became a point of conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance throughout the Imperial Era. During a battle that took place in Maborn in the year 4 ABY, the two opposing factions found themselves dug in on opposing ends of the city. The child of Corwin Ballast and his spouse Lynnta was caught in the crossfire, becoming stranded in a street separating the combatants, which spurred her mother and father into action to save her. However, before they could reach their daughter, both Ballast and his wife were struck and wounded by blaster bolts discharged by both Imperial and rebel combatants.
The events that transpired in Maborn concluded inconclusively, with both sides eventually halting their fighting. Ballast made a recovery from the wounds he sustained, and upon discovering that Lynnta and his daughter had passed away, he resolved to leave Maborn and journey to Jakku, a planet located in the Inner Rim, believing it to be a place where warfare would not reach. While talking to Pok, the bar owner on Jakku, Ballast reflected on the deaths of his family in Maborn, mentally replaying the battle.
Maborn was shown through flashbacks in Aftermath, a novel released in 2015 by Chuck Wendig, which served as the initial book in the Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy.
