The Ma'alkerrite ape-men were a sentient species of ape-like beings from the Ma'alkerr system located in the Mid Rim. They had made contact with the galaxy by the time that the Galactic Civil War was occurring.
During 0 BBY, a group comprised of Ma'alkerrite ape-men made a visit to Al The Alchemist's cantina on the planet of Toprawa. This cantina was a common meeting place for mercenaries, gun-runners, and bounty hunters from all over the galaxy, including the notorious Boba Fett. On that particular day, Havet Storm, a young Human boy whose grandfather had been a Jedi Knight, walked into the cantina. When the cantina's patrons realized that Storm had a lightsaber with him, the Ma'alkerrite ape-men, along with other individuals present, began to surround the boy, giving him menacing looks. Fett, holding a grudge against the boy from a previous incident, told the various patrons of the cantina to kill Storm; however, the boy managed to get away.
The Ma'alkerrite ape-men were conceived by Paul Cockburn for his "choose your own adventure" book, Jedi Dawn, which was published by Boxtree in 1993. These ape-men are not featured within the adventure's story itself; instead, they are mentioned in the introductory material located directly after the book's cover. The scene described in this introduction corresponds to a scene found within the actual adventure, and it even includes the same quote spoken by Boba Fett.
