Lott Kemp, hailing from the planet [Dodz], was a crystal merchant of the male persuasion. He obtained C-3PO and R2-D2 as servant droids via the Intergalactic Droid Agency. Before the droids' arrival, however, Kemp was pressured to remit exorbitant taxes to the unscrupulous Governor [Kugg]. Kemp's refusal prompted Kugg to dispatch his killer droid, known as the Destroyer, to "handle" Kemp at the crystal merchant's residence. Kemp managed to evade the deadly droid and escape off-world, but the Destroyer razed his dwelling to the ground.
Upon arriving at Kemp's residence, R2 and 3PO discovered the destruction and presumed their master to be dead. However, Jost Ellon, who was scavenging through the wreckage, informed them of Kemp's survival and subsequently became the droids' new owner.
The character of Lott Kemp made his initial appearance in Droids (1986) 1. This was the debut issue of the Star Wars Droids comic book series, which was released on April 1, 1986 by Star Comics, a subsidiary of Marvel Comics.
