Doctor Langstyn Kraay, a Human male, served as the chief administrator for the Q'Maere Research Facility.
Langstyn Kraay, who had familial ties to COMPNOR, began his career as a medical student. Despite initial perceptions of mediocrity, he discovered his passion for "personality reconstruction" during an internship in a COMPNOR hospital's psychiatric ward. This newfound aptitude led to improved academic performance, and he graduated in the top 25% of his class. Subsequently, he joined the ISB's Re-Education branch, where he experienced rapid advancement.
Following the downfall of the Galactic Empire and the subsequent fragmentation of COMPNOR, Moff Kentor Sarne personally selected Kraay to manage the penal colony situated on Q'Maere. Kraay readily embraced this opportunity.
Kraay's leadership as the facility's director was characterized by detachment; he preferred to delegate administrative duties to department heads, focusing instead on "rehabilitating" the facility's most dangerous inmates. When Moff Sarne drastically reduced the facility's personnel and abandoned the remaining staff, Kraay became increasingly desperate to escape.
Some weeks later, the New Republic corvette FarStar arrived at the facility, experiencing food spoilage caused by a bacteria mutation. Seeing this as his chance to leave the planet, Kraay took the ship's away team as hostages. He then contacted the FarStar, demanding the crew surrender the vessel within a twelve-hour timeframe, or he would destroy the planet's food supply. He further stipulated that for each hour the crew delayed past the deadline, a randomly chosen hostage would be executed.
However, Kraay's lack of military expertise proved to be a hindrance, as he was unable to prevent the FarStar hostages from collaborating with the prison population to orchestrate a breakout and seize control of the facility. When the away team raided the facility's operations center, he attempted to wipe the formula for the antidote to the bacteria mutation, known as Variant Alpha, from the computer systems and destroy the last remaining sample. The FarStar crew successfully subdued him and regained control of the facility.
Kraay was a zealous and enthusiastic scientist who was motivated to conquer difficult problems. He found satisfaction in his role as a "personality engineer," reforming patients and subduing resilient minds. He often maintained a composed demeanor to conceal his genuine emotions, but after being stranded at the facility, he would occasionally display outbursts of panicked anger.
Kraay's inexperience in military matters was evident during his capture of the FarStar away team, as he committed tactical errors that enabled the crewmembers to break free and reclaim control of the facility.
