Koth family

The lineage of the Koth family originates with Eeth Koth, a former Jedi Master. Subsequent to his departure from the ranks of the Jedi Order, Koth entered into marriage with Mira, a female Zabrak; their union resulted in the birth of a baby daughter.

History

A Jedi Master

Eeth Koth, a male Zabrak hailing from the planet Iridonia, demonstrated an aptitude for the Force and was subsequently inducted into the Jedi Temple for training as a Jedi.

Koth swiftly ascended to the rank of Jedi Master and was appointed to the esteemed Jedi High Council. During the tumultuous period of the Clone Wars, he actively participated in numerous conflicts.

Finding love in exile

Koth fell in love with the female Zabrak Mira.

In 19 BBY, circumstances compelled Koth to relinquish his position on the Jedi High Council and formally withdraw from the Jedi Order. Coinciding with this period, the then-Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, also known publicly as Darth Sidious, orchestrated the destruction of the Jedi Order through the issuance of Order 66, which commanded the clone troopers to eliminate the Jedi.

Following Palpatine's establishment of the Galactic Empire, with himself as its Emperor, Koth remained in self-imposed exile, severing all ties with the Jedi. Eventually, he found love with Mira, a female Zabrak. By 14 BBY, they were married, and Mira was pregnant. Koth also assumed the role of a priest within the Church of the Ganthic Enlightenment, where he conducted weddings and funerals.

Destroyed family

The family was found by Darth Vader.

Mira subsequently delivered a daughter, with Eeth Koth present at the birth. Like her father, the child exhibited sensitivity to the Force. However, just moments after the child's arrival, Darth Vader and three Inquisitors appeared to confront Koth.

Initially, the former Jedi attempted to negotiate with Vader, seeking peace for himself and his family, while Mira instructed the nurse droid to hand over the baby. When Koth's attempts at negotiation proved futile, he engaged Vader in a lightsaber duel, providing his wife the opportunity to escape with their daughter.

Mira was pursued by the Inquisitors as she attempted to reach her father's hovercraft with her daughter. She was intercepted by the Inquisitor Thirteenth Sister, who exploited the child's Force-sensitivity to locate her. In desperation, Mira pleaded with the Inquisitor, appealing to her as a woman, to allow her to leave with her child. Akaris appeared to relent, allowing her to enter the hovercraft.

After the death of Eeth Koth, his daughter was given to the nursemaids.

As the hovercraft departed, Akaris used the Force to seize the child from Mira's arms mid-flight. Overcome with grief, Mira implored her father to turn back, but he refused, citing the risk of death for both of them.

The duel between Koth and Vader continued, and the former Jedi Master soon realized that the Inquisitor had captured his daughter, which distracted him and allowed Vader to impale the Zabrak through the back, killing him. The Inquisitors gave Koth's daughter to Vader who used the Force to silence her after she didn't stop crying. Vader then entrusted the baby to two nursemaids for inclusion in Project Harvester.

Family tree

Behind the scenes

The initial appearance of the Koth family was through Eeth Koth in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, the inaugural film of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. However, the family's formation was not depicted until the 2018 comic book issue Darth Vader 19. In contrast, within the Star Wars Legends continuity, Eeth Koth was portrayed as an orphan raised in the violent slums of Nar Shaddaa, without any family when the Jedi Order approached him.
