Kaernor Belasstie, a miner, is the namesake of Kaernor's Smile, a sizable canyon located on Tilnes. Although Kaernor arrived after the start of the mining boom on Tilnes, he had picked up whispers in the Underground about a substantial, untouched vein of crystals situated on the distant side of the moon. He readily obtained the rights to mine, dismissing others' hesitation to approach the deep ravine where the resource was located, but he could not find a single crew member to accompany him. Certain that it would result in quick wealth, Kaernor proceeded independently. He broadcast his entire journey, until his signal abruptly ceased. He was never found.
