The K1-RF maintenance unit, also known as the K1-RF workbench droid, functioned as a maintenance droid capable of serving as a workbench, while simultaneously executing organizational duties and maintenance tasks, such as cleaning the workspace. A K1-RF workbench droid was present within the workshop belonging to droidsmith Babu Frik on the planet Kijimi during 35 ABY.
Serving as a workbench, the K1-RF maintenance unit, alternatively called the K1-RF workbench droid, represented a specific model of maintenance droid. This adaptable model also possessed the ability to handle both organizational and maintenance responsibilities, thereby allowing owners to conserve space by having the droid maintain the tidiness of their workshops, while also providing an extra surface for performing tasks if required.
The droid's construction involved a block-shaped core with blue and red colored plating, and a hydraulically operated platform that could be raised, connected to the upper section of its core by a pair of rods. The platform was further linked to the core via several wires and incorporated an adjustable lamp on one of its ends.

A K1-RF workbench droid was located in the passage between two shelves filled with droid components inside the workshop of droidsmith Babu Frik in the Thieves' Quarter of Kijimi City on the planet Kijimi in 35 ABY. The droid was partially concealed by a collection of various devices, and its operational status and utilization by its owner were ambiguous.
Resistance operatives Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron had to exercise caution to avoid contact with the workbench droid during their visit to the workshop for a complete redacted memory bypass procedure on the protocol droid C-3PO, although Rey did prop her quarterstaff against it. Shortly following the group's departure, the workshop suffered destruction when the Final Order fleet destroyed the entirety of Kijimi. However, Frik successfully escaped beforehand, presumably leaving the droid behind.
A K1-RF workbench droid made its initial appearance in the sequel trilogy movie, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, which premiered on December 20, 2019. Before the film's debut, the droid was observable in the final trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, which was launched on October 22, 2019. Its formal designation was first established in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a companion book authored by Pablo Hidalgo and published concurrently with the movie. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: A Junior Novel, a 2020 adaptation of the film penned by Michael Kogge, subsequently introduced the alternative name of "K1-RF maintenance unit."
