Jefferson Starship

Jefferson Starship, a rock music group, came together in the decade of the 1970s. This band delivered the track "Light the Sky on Fire" as an unnamed band for a musical number featured in The Star Wars Holiday Special.

History

In the early part of the 1970s, Tom Veitch, who later became a Star Wars comic book author, penned a pair of comic book issues for Grunt Records, the vanity label belonging to Jefferson Starship.

The band was photographed in June of 1977 alongside Darth Vader (portrayed by touring model Kermit Eller). At some point after this, Grace Slick encountered Mark Hamill behind the scenes at a concert and introduced herself by saying she was "Darth Vader's wife." By 1978, both Creach and Slick had left the group. The band's performance in The Star Wars Holiday Special happened during this time. Balin and Barbata also left the band shortly after.
