Janilis VII

Janilis VII, a planet located in the Outer Rim Territories, resided within the Cronese Mandate sector of the Tion Cluster. It served as a significant origin point for the Cronese Human civilization and belonged to the Kingdom of Cron. Despite its decline and the subsistence-level economy of its society, Janilis VII housed several archives that remarkably persisted for twenty-five millennia.

Description

Referred to simply as Janilis as well, Janilis VII was a vibrant planet orbiting in the seventh orbital position of the Janilis system. It was situated in the Cronese Mandate sector of the Tion Cluster, specifically within the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories. Positioned on the Greater Cronese Arc hyperlane, Janilis VII lay between the Arcan and Chandaar systems.

History

Janilis VII was part of the Kingdom of Cron.

Sometime after approximately 27,500 BBY, the Janilis system saw its first colonists arrive via Human sleeper ships. Janilis VII played a key role in the development of the Human Cronese civilization, becoming a favored location for Cronese nobles and forming a central part of the Kingdom of Cron around 25,150 BBY. By the time that King of Cron Xim began his reign around that year, Janilis VII was already an established world with several archives. These archives remained operational even around the era of the Galactic Empire twenty-five millennia later, with the Cronese demanding high fees from researchers looking for documents from Xim's time.

Sometime in the period spanning from 0 ABY to 3 ABY, Galladinium's Galactic Datalog of Fantastic Technology's fiftieth-anniversary edition made mention of Janilis VII. Within the datalog, an advertisement for Willienk Data Systems' RTDS-1000 remote text data scanner advised that, should one need to examine "musty" archives on the planet, they should instead send an assistant equipped with an RTDS-1000.

Inhabitants

Although initially settled over twenty-five thousand years before the Galactic Empire's reign, Janilis VII remained a populated world by the time of the Empire, albeit in a state of decline, with its inhabitants practicing a subsistence-based economy.

Behind the scenes

Galladinium's Fantastic Technology, a 1995 sourcebook by Rick D. Stuart for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, provided the first mention of Janilis VII. The reference book The Essential Atlas, released on August 18, 2009, placed the Janilis system, and consequently Janilis VII, in grid square S-6. Subsequently, the StarWars.com Hyperspace article "Xim Week: The History of Xim and the Tion Cluster" by Jason Fry, published on December 7, 2009, introduced the shortened name "Janilis."
