IT-O interrogation droid

The IT-O interrogation droid, also called the IT-O Interrogation Unit or IT-O Interrogator, represented an interrogator droid engineered by the Imperial Department of Military Research and put into service by the Galactic Empire.

History

The IT-O droid was used by the Imperial regime.

Secretly developed by the Imperial Department of Military Research, IT-O units were deployed by the Galactic Empire to extract intelligence from captives using mind probes. It was well known that Jedi were trained to resist mind probes, necessitating other means to obtain information from them. Captain Bragg tried to use an IT-O on Avi Singh, but the Separatist senator was liberated before the interrogation could begin. Royce Hemlock also used one to torture CT-9904 "Crosshair" in an attempt to discover the whereabouts of his former comrades, Clone Force 99. One IT-O droid was used to interrogate Kanan Jarrus aboard Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin's Star Destroyer Sovereign. Ultimately, The Grand Inquisitor took over the torture. In another instance, Governor Arihnda Pryce employed an IT-O to interrogate the rebel Hera Syndulla following the unsuccessful attack on the Imperial fuel depot related to the TIE/D Defender Elite project.

Later, an IT-O was used on the Death Star in an attempt to get information from Princess Leia Organa, but she exhibited significant resistance to the mind probe. During the Empire's cleanup operations at the former Alliance base on Yavin 4, an IT-O was deployed.

By 9 ABY, at least one white-painted IT-O, reprogrammed as a lab droid, was operating on the planet Plazir-15. This IT-O unit assisted a lab tech in a morgue, where they received a rogue B2-series super battle droid. However, the IT-O unit attacked its master after being infected with nanodroids planted by Commissioner Helgait. Din Djarin destroyed the droid with the Darksaber before it could inflict severe damage.

Decades afterward, the First Order utilized a new model of interrogator droid that resembled the IT-O model.

Characteristics

IT-O units were commonly used by the Galactic Empire.

The IT-0's design centered around a compact, spherical casing equipped with repulsorlift technology. This casing was surrounded by a variety of instruments, based on typical medical droid tools, but modified to inflict pain and cause biological deterioration to subjects instead of providing healing. These instruments included a sonic torture device, an electroshock nerve probe positioned on top of the droid's frame, and a prominent drug injector syringe mounted on the droid's side, designed to be as large and intimidating as possible. Other equipment comprised a chemical torture turret, deployable flesh peelers and joint cripplers, a [mind probe](/article/mind_probe], and a truth serum.

The droid was non-sentient and programmed solely to continuously administer torture to its subjects until given instructions to cease. While it possessed a red victim analysis photoreceptor and various biofeedback monitors that enabled it to accurately assess whether a victim was being truthful, it lacked the capacity to act on this information and would simply transmit it to a commanding officer.
