Inysh

Inysh, situated within the Core Worlds, was a planet that served as the original home of the Abinyshi. These reptilians were a sentient and docile species. Inysh's inhabitants were among the earliest to achieve the feat of space travel, although their interstellar colonization efforts remained limited in scope. The Galactic Empire eventually discovered that the world contained significant deposits of kalonterium ore and subsequently began large-scale mining operations, effectively stripping the planet of its resources.

As a consequence, the Inysh ecosystem suffered extensive damage. Toxic waste was indiscriminately disposed of across the planet, leading to the widespread death of native flora and fauna. The Abinyshi people were enslaved, pushed to the verge of total extinction, and the galaxy was deceived into believing the species had destroyed itself through internal conflict. At some point, the Empire ceased its mining activities on Inysh, abandoning the remaining natives to their devastated homeworld.

Description

Inysh was a terrestrial planet found within the Inysh system, which is located in the Southern Core region of the Core Worlds. It was a homeworld to a variety of plant and animal life until the Galactic Empire's mining operations led to the overall collapse of its ecological systems.

History

The Abinyshi people, native to Inysh, were among the first species to develop space travel technology, venturing into the stars around the same time as Humans. However, the reptilians' capacity for colonization beyond their own system was restricted due to their relatively small population size.

The Abinyshi were native to Inysh.

At some juncture, scouts representing the Galactic Empire, along with representatives from the Mining Guild, discovered significant deposits of kalonterium on Inysh. This ore was crucial for the manufacturing of weapons and the construction of starships. Subsequently, the Empire established mining facilities on the planet and began systematically extracting the world's kalonterium resources.

Consequently, the Inysh ecosystem was ravaged because the Empire disposed of toxic byproducts from the mining process across the entire planet, resulting in the widespread death of the world's native plant and animal species. Nearly all of the Abinyshi, save for a few thousand, were either enslaved to mine kalonterium for the Empire or were otherwise stranded on Inysh, pushing the species to the brink of extinction. Imperial propaganda spread misinformation throughout the galaxy, leading almost everyone to believe that the natives had been wiped out due to a devastating civil war. Eventually, when alternative, higher-quality ores became available elsewhere, the Imperial mining operations on Inysh were abandoned, leaving the Abinyshi to suffer on their ruined planet.

Roughly two decades afterwards, around 1 ABY, the Abinyshi individual known as S'itl Thirr contacted Professor Tem Eliss from the University of Sanbra. Thirr requested that Eliss reveal the truth concerning Inysh and its fate. Eliss agreed and eventually included a section dedicated to the Abinyshi in his publication, The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life.

Inhabitants

Inysh served as the original homeworld for the Abinyshi, a sentient bipedal species of reptilian descent. The Abinyshi were known for their peaceful and gentle culture, and their primary exports to the broader galactic community consisted of their unique cuisine and literature.

Behind the scenes

Inysh was first presented in an August 1997 installment of the "Alien Encounters" series, authored by Trevor J. Wilson and Craig Robert Carey, featured in Star Wars Adventure Journal 14. In 2009, the reference book The Essential Atlas pinpointed the location of the Inysh system, and consequently the planet Inysh, within grid square J-12.
