A Shield Station represents a type of Space station employed by the Galactic Empire.
Imperial Shield Stations functioned by producing substantial energy levels, which were used to establish a protective shield over a large spatial area. These stations included a control center and a docking bay. Within the docking bays was the main turbine, responsible for generating the energy necessary to power the shield, along with a shaft located directly behind the station, which channeled the energy into the shields. The control deck managed the operation of the docking bay doors and was staffed by a minimum of two officers. Should the control deck be destroyed or rendered inoperable, the docking bay doors would likely malfunction, exhibiting erratic opening and closing patterns. Due to the magnitude of the shielding required, the employment of multiple station copies was necessary for maintaining it. Furthermore, incapacitating any single Shield Station's functionality would consequently weaken and deactivate the shield.
The Fondor Shipyards made use of several Shield Stations for their classified projects, notably the development of an Executor-class Star Dreadnought prototype with cloaking capabilities. In 3 ABY, Rogue Squadron infiltrated the Fondor Shipyards by utilizing captured TIE Hunters to disguise themselves as TIE pilots escorting a "captured" GR-75 medium transport. The plan involved having the transport ram a specific Shield Station's command deck, forcing the station to open. However, after the Imperials discovered the deception, the squadron was compelled to defend the transport until it neared impact with the station. Following the successful completion of the transport's kamikaze mission, Wedge Antilles used an ion cannon blast from his TIE Hunter to disable the malfunctioning doors (a consequence of the command deck's destruction). He then proceeded to destroy the exposed shield turbine. As a result, the shield was weakened to the point of deactivation, enabling the Rebels to attack the cloaked Star Dreadnought prototype. It is assumed that the remaining stations were destroyed when Rogue Squadron and the Rebel Alliance destroyed the Star Dreadnought prototype by detonating their cloaking devices.
