Ido Glayyd

Ido Glayyd was a female Human belonging to the esteemed House Glayyd located on the Corporate Sector planet of Ammuud. Agmor, Glayyd's father, held the position of Mor, or clan leader, of House Glayyd. Following his death in 2 BBY, her younger sibling Ewwen took over the role. Ido became his most trusted confidante, standing by his side. Merely weeks after their father's passing, an offense directed at Ido by the gunslinger Gallandro compelled her brother to challenge the outsider to a death duel. Subsequently, Ido played a role in enlisting the help of Corellian smuggler Han Solo to intervene in the duel, enabling her brother to preserve his reputation.

Biography

Ido Glayyd, the daughter of Agmor Glayyd who was the Mor—the clan's patriarch—of the influential House Glayyd from the Corporate Sector world known as Ammuud, was raised with the understanding that her primary purpose was to become a suitable wife for a clan member. Despite being constantly pursued by numerous suitors interested in the Glayyd family's vast wealth—with Kyle Odoon being the only one who was remotely agreeable—she had little interest in fulfilling that role. The unexpected death of her father, caused by a mysterious poisoning in 2 BBY, presented Ido with an opportunity to actively influence her family's future. Since the Code of Ammuud prevented her from becoming Mor, Ido watched her younger brother Ewwen assume the position and took her place as his most trusted advisor.

Just weeks later, Ewwen faced his first major challenge as the new Mor of House Glayyd. During a reception, Ido encountered a mysterious offworlder named Gallandro, who insulted and struck her. Honor demanded that the Mor challenge Gallandro, a renowned gunslinger, to a death duel, even though Ido suspected that this was a plot by a rival clan to eliminate the new Mor Glayyd. The scheduled duel was postponed twice in the following days, which was when Corellian smuggler Han Solo arrived on Ammuud, claiming to have business with Ewwen. Ido identified an opportunity: while the Code of Ammuud prohibited anyone in Clan Glayyd or its service from intervening in the duel, the outsider Solo could step in and allow her brother to save face. Although Ewwen was initially hesitant, Ido implored her brother to accept Solo's intervention as a personal favor, and his agreement led Gallandro to issue an apology and cancel the duel.

Following the duel, Solo revealed his reasons for coming to Ammuud to the Glayyds: he was searching for a slaving ring that had cheated him out of 10,000 credits. His investigation had revealed that one of the group's leaders, a man named Zlarb, had his starships cleared through House Glayyd's shipping firm—the Glayyds had deliberately remained unaware of the group's activities because Zlarb and his associates paid them handsomely. Solo and his partner, Fiolla, hoped their hosts could provide them with information about the ring's connections. Ewwen initially refused, citing the provision of the Code of Ammuud known as the Silence, which forbade him from betraying their trust, as Zlarb's people had never broken faith with the Glayyds. However, after learning that Zlarb—a trained Malkite Poisoner—was responsible for the death of the former Mor, Ido and her brother shared the information that Solo needed.

Personality and traits

Ido Glayyd, like her brother, possessed an idealistic vision for the future of their homeworld, viewing its social structure as outdated and hoping to guide it toward a better path. She was strong-willed and intelligent, finding her place as her brother's advisor, which allowed her to concentrate on matters other than her numerous suitors. However, the job presented its own challenges: Ido was protective of her younger brother and deeply concerned for his safety, and she had to work to extricate him from difficult and dangerous situations. As an advisor, the beautiful Ido employed lessons learned from a Lorrdian tutor, who taught her the skill of interpreting body language and posture.

Behind the scenes

Ido Glayyd made her debut in Han Solo's Revenge, penned by Brian Daley and published in 1979. Later, she was depicted alongside her brother by Mike Vilardi in the 1993 publication Han Solo and the Corporate Sector Sourcebook.
