A hyperspace route, which can also be referred to as a hyperroute, hyperway, hyperlane, hyperspace lane, spacelane, star-route, trade route, or jump route, represented a region of space considered secure for voyages utilizing hyperspace. The most expansive of these were known as super-hyperroutes.
Hyperspace routes denoted specific paths across space where a spaceship could journey safely and without interruption, avoiding collisions with celestial bodies or phenomena like a black hole. The galaxy contained five major routes, alongside hundreds of less important routes and thousands of routes of even lesser significance. The exploration and charting of new hyperspace routes was an exceptionally perilous undertaking for any explorer.
In numerous galactic sectors, hyperlanes necessitated periodic returns to realspace, requiring manual navigation toward the subsequent hyper-point. These locations were frequently targeted by pirate attacks. To mitigate this threat, the Galactic Empire and other governing bodies often erected deep-space platforms at strategic hyper-points. The use of probe droids was also common.
- The Rimma Trade Route, established around 5500 BBY, served as a key commercial artery, extending from Abregado-rae within the Core Worlds to the Kathol sector located in the Outer Rim.
- The Perlemian Trade Route was a hyperroute of critical importance for commerce. It, along with the Corellian Run, defined the boundary of The Slice.
- The Hydian Way was unique as the only hyperlane to traverse the entire breadth of the galaxy.
- The Corellian Run originated at Coruscant, circled the Deep Core region, passed through Corellia, proceeded onward through Tatooine, and eventually concluded near the remote Outer Rim world of Naos III.
- The Corellian Trade Spine commenced at Corellia and proceeded in the direction of Duro. Ultimately, it skirted past the Greater Javin before diminishing in significance.
