Hanging Valley

The Hanging Valley existed on the ice-covered planet Hoth. Its geographical position was to the south of the North Ridge, to the west of the Cirque Glacier, and to the northwest of the Clabburn Range of mountains. In the year 3 ABY, the Imperial Viper probe droid XJ9-CS14 relocated from the Cirque Glacier to the eastern boundary of the valley. It was there that it initially detected the energy signature of Echo Base, which served as the headquarters for the Alliance to Restore the Republic, and which the droid was tasked with finding. The droid proceeded along the valley's eastern edge and descended into the Clabburn Range, encountering a predatory wampa during its journey. Later, the T-47 airspeeders belonging to Rogue Squadron traversed the southern and western areas of the valley while they were searching for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, two rebels who had been stranded outside Echo Base overnight.

Behind the scenes

The Hanging Valley was initially brought up in the 2016 reference book titled Star Wars: Complete Locations. This section was penned by James Luceno and visually represented through illustrations by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen. The location's first appearance was within the Star Wars Legends continuity, specifically in the 2004 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy. Luceno also authored this book, and Chasemore and Jenssen provided the illustrations.
