Guun Cutlax was a male pirate lord who commanded the Iska pirates throughout the Imperial Era. The Galactic Empire's Reconquest of the Rim in 17 BBY saw the Iska pirates defeated at Fanha, an astronomical object located in the Outer Rim Territories, by Admiral Terrinald Screed.
Escaping to the Atravis sector, Cutlax met up with holdouts from the Confederacy of Indepent Systems, led by the renegade General Kendu Ultho. These CIS forces had been defeated in the Clone Wars two years prior. In 17 BBY, Cutlax's privateers were defeated at Tosste, a planet in the Outer Rim, and Ultho's forces would later be defeated by the Empire at Ogoth Tiir, an astronomical object in the Outer Rim, later that same year.
The 2012 reference book, The Essential Guide to Warfare, by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart, contained a mention of Gunn Gutlax. Fry noted in his endnotes to The Essential Guide for Warfare that Cutlax was a newly created character, and he designed the name to evoke a pirate feel.
