When Gunner Groth, a bounty hunter, sought to apprehend Mara Jade on Rishi during 9 ABY, he employed a decoy as part of his strategy. The specifics of how Groth forced the man to participate remain a mystery, but it is suggested that some kind of intimidation was used.
This individual, the decoy, was dressed in a green tunic adorned with black lines and a blue scarf. He positioned himself in plain sight of Jade, right outside Talon Karrde's base of operations. After gaining her attention, he guided her towards the city's northern outskirts, a more desolate area primarily composed of factories and warehouses. In doing so, he achieved both objectives Groth had assigned him: to guide Jade to a specific location, and to do so in a conspicuous and awkward manner, thus deceiving her into thinking she was dealing with an inexperienced individual.
Upon arriving at the prearranged location, the decoy's usefulness to Groth had expired, at least as a living being. The bounty hunter then eliminated him using an unspecified method. His body, posed to appear living, served as a final deception, drawing Jade further into the prepared ambush.
However, his killer did not get away with his crimes. Mara Jade tapped into her dormant Force-sensitivity, enabling her to defeat and kill Groth. She then took his identification and a datacard before departing, leaving his body beside that of his last victim.
