The Grand Bespin Hotel was a hotel situated within Cloud City, the mining colony dedicated to Tibanna extraction. Its white archways were a defining characteristic. After they escaped from Hoth alongside Han Solo and Chewbacca, Princess Leia Organa took residence in a suite at this hotel while the Millennium Falcon underwent repairs. Lando Calrissian, the Baron administrator, dispatched the stylist Neshee to the princess's suite, instructing him to present his finest work, suitable for royalty. Neshee arrived with a cloak displaying vibrant shades of red and orange and was taken by surprise when he realized the garment was intended for a genuine princess. Later on, Solo visited Leia's suite to inform her that the Falcon's repairs were nearing completion. Shortly after that, Chewbacca arrived carrying the disassembled parts of C-3PO, who had been, unbeknownst to them, torn apart by Imperial stormtroopers' blaster fire. Calrissian then greeted them in the suite and invited them to join him for refreshments, before escorting them to the Rinetta dining room.
The origin of the Grand Bespin Hotel can be traced back to Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments from the Rim, a roleplaying supplement within the Legends continuity, which was released in 1993. Initially referred to as the "Bespin Grand Hotel" in that book, it later acquired the alternative name "Grand Bespin Hotel" in Cloud Cover, an article for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game that appeared in Star Wars Gamer 3 in 2001. It was integrated into canon through the short story "Into the Clouds," included in the 2020 anthology titled From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back. This short story established that Leia Organa's stay in Cloud City, during the events depicted in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, took place at this very hotel.
