Gabrial Atanna had a wife who was an Esselian woman. When the Galactic Civil War raged, and after her husband was discovered spying on behalf of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, the Galactic Empire placed her and her grandchildren under house arrest. A rescue team from the Alliance then liberated her and the grandchildren, transporting them to a secure Alliance safe world.
