The G-2RD Series Guard Droid, a diminutive defense droid of the fourth degree, was manufactured by Arakyd Industries. This black, spherical security droid, characterized by a flat form factor, featured three equidistant arms, sensor antennae populating its underside, and a multitude of photoreceptors encircling its exterior. The G-2RD possessed the capability to manipulate locking mechanisms, as well as the ability to communicate, comprehend, and compose in Basic.

Arakyd conceived the G-2RD droids with the intention of creating relentless and uncompromising security units capable of suppressing unrest. While Arakyd considered this a beneficial attribute, numerous other droids and individuals perceived them as bothersome and challenging to collaborate with. Initially, Arakyd marketed the G-2RD series to penal institutions across the galaxy. It incorporated a repulsorlift engine, enabling it to reach a maximum altitude of 900 meters.
To effectively quell rioters and/or fugitives without resorting to lethal force, the droid was outfitted with a stun baton, an ion blaster, and a stun grenade launcher. For protection, it boasted robust armor plating and resistance to conventional restraining bolts. Moreover, it included a powerful alarm system for summoning assistance from remote locations.
By the time production ceased, Arakyd had generated millions of these droids, which served in diverse environments ranging from the forces of minor criminals to New Republic holding facilities.
Ever since its formation, the Galactic Empire acquired significant quantities of these security droids.
Han Solo and Chewbacca had a brief interaction with one, managing to neutralize it using a makeshift restraining bolt that bypassed the droid's defenses. Subsequently, the droid's memory was wiped.
