Furies Gate, situated in the Deep Core region of the galaxy, was the most distant planet within the Tython system. More than 36,000 years prior to the Battle of Yavin, this desolate and frigid world was settled by non–Force-sensitive colonists originating from the planet Tython. Some millennia before 25,793 BBY, a space station named Fury Station was constructed in orbit around Furies Gate, functioning for a considerable time as a launching point for Tythan sleeper ships venturing into the Deep Core. By 25,793 BBY, the station remained in orbit around Furies Gate, operating as a scientific research facility.

Positioned at galactic coordinates L-10 within the Deep Core region of the galaxy, Furies Gate was a planet lacking any moons and located in the Tython system. This world occupied the outermost, eleventh, orbital position around its sun, Tythos, presenting a cold and largely barren landscape that appeared brown in color when viewed from space. Fury Station, a space station, circled Furies Gate, with the station's crew representing the only sentient inhabitants on the desolate planet.
Furies Gate saw its colonization by non–Force-sensitive settlers from Tython—the Tython system's fifth planet—more than a millennium after the year 36,453 BBY, as they traveled to the neighboring worlds of Tython. Millennia before 25,793 BBY, Fury Station was established in orbit around Furies Gate. Since its creation, the station served as a launch point for multiple Tythan sleeper ships destined for the Deep Core. By 25,793 BBY, Fury Station remained in orbit around Furies Gate, functioning as a scientific outpost managed under strict treaty by the Settled Worlds of the Tython system.
The first visual depiction of Furies Gate appeared in the Tython entry within The Holonet section of the official website for Star Wars: The Old Republic, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game from 2011 developed by BioWare. The planet was shown in a schematic diagram of the Tython system. Since its inception in 2008, The Old Republic's website has undergone numerous revisions, leading to the removal of certain features and images, including the aforementioned schematic. Furies Gate's name and supplementary details were provided in Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi 0, a preview edition of the Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi comic books series. This issue, penned by John Ostrander and illustrated by Jan Duursema, was released on February 1, 2012. The planet was also referenced in the first issue of the series and made its in-universe debut in the second issue, which were published on February 15 and March 21 of the same year, respectively.
