Fondor II

Fondor II was a military installation utilized by the Imperial forces during the Galactic Civil War. Situated in the harsh desert environment of the desolate planet of Zaloriis, this base served as a production hub for All Terrain Armored Transport walkers and experimental vehicles, fueling local folklore among the uninformed indigenous population of the planet.

Characteristics

Located on the planet of Zaloriis, Fondor II functioned as a Imperial military outpost. Enclosed by protective walls, the base contained a command center, living quarters (troop center), a Research Center, and different structures dedicated to military production (such as a mech factory), in addition to a landing area. Four guard towers and an exposed power core were also present. An animal nursery was located just outside the base's perimeter.

History

Before the Battle of Hoth, during an Imperial assault on Zaloriis, then-Colonel Maximilian Veers was taken prisoner by the planet's separatists. Darth Vader and his troops successfully rescued him, and they subsequently regrouped at Fondor II. At that time, Rebel forces were attacking the base. After Darth Vader and his forces cleared the base of hostiles, Colonel Veers led them to Camp Culroon, his secret research facility, where they developed the prototype All Terrain Armored Transport unit, known as Blizzard 1. Vader's team then transported Blizzard 1 back to Fondor II for final preparations. Subsequently, the AT-AT, along with other assembled military units, launched an assault on the Rebel stronghold at Zaloriis City, effectively crippling their ability to wage war.

Behind the scenes

The name Fondor II is shared with the planet of Fondor, which houses the Fondor Shipyards, a major manufacturing center for Imperial Navy warships. This base is featured in the 2001 video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds as part of the Darth Vader campaign. This campaign is also included in the game's 2002 expansion, Clone Campaigns.
