A kote ky'ram The kote ky'ram, also known as the Mandalorian death ceremony, was an ancient funerary practice carried out by Mandalorians for warriors who died with exceptional valor.
Kote ky'ram, translating to "glory death" from the Mandalorian language called Mando'a into Galactic Basic, was typically given to warriors who perished in combat against Jedi or against insurmountable odds.
The body of the deceased warrior was placed on a raised pyre during this death ceremony, with the intention of facilitating the ascension of their spirit to join other Mandalorian heroes.
As the cremation of the deceased took place, clan members would proclaim war cries and recount the heroic acts of their fallen comrade to the heavens, before commencing a night of drunken revelry and celebration in the warrior's honor.
By the time of the Galactic War, the only individual outside of Mandalorian culture to be granted this honor was the Sith Lord Raze, who gave his life while rescuing a Mandalorian clan from twenty Jedi during a battle that occurred on the planet Dantooine.
The kote ky'ram ritual was initially presented to the Star Wars expanded universe within the MMORPG video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, specifically as a component of the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion pack, which launched on October 27, 2015.
