Keed

The Keed originated from the planet Keedad located within the Outer Rim Territories; they are classified as a near-Human species. From the early days of the Galactic Republic, Human colonists coexisted with them on their homeworld. The Keed and Human hybrid Ytavarg Aleema was born on Keedad circa 26 BBY. After observing Aleema participate in a lettranin match on Keedad, Ger Plortor, a scout for the Shad Furies shockball team, recruited him. Ultimately, the Keed athlete rose to become the most famous shockball player in the galaxy. During the Galactic Civil War, Aleema became a clandestine benefactor and agent of the Rebel Alliance after he killed a group of Galactic Empire agents to avenge the death of a fellow alien shockball player.

Biology and appearance

The sentient near-Human species known as the Keed were capable of producing offspring with Humans. A Keed/Human hybrid possessed a humanoid physique, featuring two arms and two legs. Their skin was light-colored, and they had a ridged forehead, with folded facial features located near the nostrils of their wide nose and on the sides of their eyes. Dark, long hair could be found on a hybrid's head.

Society and culture

Keed society members identified with at least one gender – male.

History

The Keed were native to Keedad, in the Auril sector.

The Keed's homeworld was Keedad, a planet situated in the Auril sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Humans settled Keedad during the early period of the Galactic Republic, which was established in 25,053 BBY. Around 26 BBY, Ytavarg Aleema, a male Keed descendant of Keedad's Human inhabitants, was born there. Aleema once participated in a casual game of lettranin, a local sport on Keedad. Ger Plortor, a scout for the prominent Core Worlds-based shockball team, the Shad Furies, was on vacation and watching the game. He later recruited the Keed athlete for his team, and Aleema went with the scout to the Core Worlds.

Keed in the galaxy

General Airen Cracken (pictured) included an entry on the Keed Ytavarg Aleema to a datafile detailing various Rebel Alliance operatives.

Ytavarg Aleema, a Keed, ultimately achieved the status of the most gifted and celebrated shockball player in the galaxy. His face became recognizable throughout the Galactic Empire, despite the government's general Humanocentric views. During the Galactic Civil War, specifically shortly after the Battle of Yavin, a group of seven Humans, seemingly rowdy Furies supporters but actually Imperial Moff agents, attacked and beat Ap Kormar, an alien player for the Quent Assassins who was suspected of sympathizing with the Rebel Alliance, to death after a game between the Shad Furies and Quent Assassins. Aleema, horrified by the act and trying to protect Kormar, retaliated by using his shockball equipment to kill all of the attackers.

Following some political maneuvering, the Keed was permitted to rejoin his team. Eventually, he also became a valuable foster agent for the Rebel Alliance. In this role, Aleema provided temporary shelter at his mansion on the Melinz celestial body in the Core Worlds for Rebel agents in need. Furthermore, the wealthy athlete donated half of his income to the Rebel Alliance. Ultimately, Airen Cracken, a Human Alliance general, added an entry about the Keed agent to a datafile that detailed various Rebel operatives.

Behind the scenes

Craig Robert Carey created the Keed, who were first introduced in Cracken's Rebel Operatives, a 1994 sourcebook by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Mike Vilardi illustrated the Keed Ytavarg Aleema in the book.
