Twirrling

A Naboo sovereign is pictured here, mounted on a gualama while twirrling. Twirrling, a pastime enjoyed by the elite across the galaxy, began on Naboo. During this hunt, nobles on domesticated gualamas employed trained twirrls to locate and retrieve game, such as various waterfowl and diminutive mammals.

A Queen of Naboo in the era after the New Republic came to power engaged in this pursuit, employing her personal collection of gualamas.

Behind the scenes

The idea of wealthy individuals employing avian predators for hunting mirrors the real-world practice of Falconry. Falconry involves using birds like falcons and hawks to capture small animals. Falconry, while appearing in varied forms globally, was a highly favored activity amongst European nobles during the medieval period.
