Star Wars: Republic, initially titled simply as Star Wars for its initial forty-five editions, represents a comic book series that was brought to the public by Dark Horse Comics. Its debut issue was released to the public on December 16, 1998. The series encompassed a total of 83 issues, with its narrative timeline stretching from events preceding The Phantom Menace to those occurring after Revenge of the Sith. Beginning with issue #49, the comic became the primary source for Clone Wars stories in comic form. The narrative was then picked up by the Star Wars: Dark Times series, which explores the early years of the Galactic Empire. The Dark Times series continued the numbering from the Clone Wars series on the inside cover, commencing with issue #84, even though each issue of Dark Times had its own independent numbering on the cover.
Several characters hailing from the original three Star Wars films were featured in the Republic comic series. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Yoda, and Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious were all recurring characters in the series. Furthermore, the following characters made either brief or cameo appearances:
