Jar Jar Binks ready for deesco dancing
Deesco represents a style of music and associated dance moves enjoyed by the Gungans. These amphibious humanoids, classified as a species, originated from the planet Naboo. Deesco's defining features included improvisational dance steps coupled with vividly colorful illumination of the dance floor. Within the underwater metropolis of Otoh Gunga, they constructed a special hydrostatic bubble designed specifically as a deesco dance venue. The Gungan known as Jar Jar Binks had a reputation as an enthusiastic deesco participant. The dance incorporated moves like "Jumping Jacks", the "Ballet Spin", the twist, high kicks, and slow, high arm waves.
Deesco dancing appeared as one of six interactive elements in Star Wars: Early Learning Activity Center, a video game tailored for children that Lucas Learning launched in 2000. The name and nature of this activity suggest a humorous take on disco, a widely popular music trend during the 1970s. A similar nod to disco later surfaced in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, where the introduction displayed several Star Wars characters engaged in disco dancing beneath a glitterball shaped like the Death Star. The game's arcade mode also featured a disco ball and Meco's disco-inspired remix of the Star Wars theme when players approached the arcade machines.
