Chewbacca's bowcaster features alternating polarizers, carefully positioned at both ends of the weapon to maintain balance.
The alternating polarizer, which can also be referred to as a polarizer sphere or polarizing orb, functioned as a magnetic component. Its purpose was to supply energy to metal blaster projectiles, specifically quarrels, used in bowcasters. A bowcaster was constructed with both a positive-default and a negative-default alternating polarizer, along with a bowstring that was conductive, and these were situated on opposite ends of the weapon to provide balance. These polarizing orbs would impart a charge to a quarrel and then encase it within plasma energy. This process occurred before the bowcaster launched a powerful blaster bolt from its barrel, with the weapon's magnetic field further amplifying the bolt's destructive capability.
