Amber logo. Amber, officially known as Wydawnictwo AMBER, is a Polish publishing house. This company is responsible for the release of Star Wars books within Poland. A significant number of Star Wars Expanded Universe books have been released by Amber, although the Jedi Apprentice series is a notable exception.
Having put out over 120 titles, Amber holds the position of the most productive non-English publisher of Star Wars books globally. The Polish Star Wars book market, in general, is one of the largest outside of English-speaking countries, second in size only to the German market. Furthermore, Amber is the oldest foreign Star Wars book publisher that is still actively publishing new titles. Despite some criticism regarding translation inaccuracies, and simplistic cover art, Amber has utilized at least seventeen different Star Wars translators over the past 16 years. Polish fans generally consider Amber to be a crucial element in the ongoing popularity of the EU in Poland.
The first Star Wars book that Amber published was Heir to the Empire (Dziedzic Imperium), translated into Polish by Anna and Jan Mickiewicz in 1994. This title was the only one released during that particular year. The years with the fewest releases were: 1995, which had 4 publications, 2007, which had 5 publications, and 2008, which also had 5 publications. Conversely, 2001 was the most productive year, featuring a total of 12 publications. Until 2005, Amber also released some of the Essential Guides and comic books, however the comic books are not listed here.
