Delegation of 2,000

The Delegation of 2,000 comprised a group of senators within the Galactic Senate who shared concerns. Many of these senators were affiliated with the Loyalist Committee. These two thousand individuals were troubled by the methods employed by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, in conducting the Clone Wars. They also disapproved of his increasing executive authority and alterations to the Galactic Constitution. During the Cantham House meetings, the group formulated the Petition of 2,000. This petition served as a formal objection to Palpatine's actions, insisting that he return the emergency powers he had assumed following the war's conclusion to the Senate. The delegation's objective was to bring the war to an end via a cease-fire.

The petition also called for the annulment of the Sector Governance Decree. In a house meeting, one month prior to the end of the Republic Era, Amidala emphasized that ending the war was crucial to the petition's purpose, as it eliminated Palpatine's justification for creating amendments. The day following the establishment of the Empire, Imperial Intelligence arrested sixty-three senators on charges that included conspiracy and treason. Several of these senators were members of the Delegation of 2,000.
