Eison Gynt was a male Nautolan Jedi Padawan of the Old Republic, born into a Jedi family. During his early years, he was regarded as the most promising Padawan within the Jedi Order, leading to his selection as an apprentice by Master Barel Ovair, who secretly functioned as a spy for the Sith Empire. On a mission to Yavin 4 aimed at exploring the tomb of the Sith Lord Naga Sadow, Ovair deserted Gynt. Ovair then falsely reported Gynt's death to the Senate on Coruscant; however, Gynt lived on, now influenced by Sadow's spirit. Controlled by Sadow, Gynt reemerged on Coruscant years later, only to be killed by Ovair in open combat. Ovair's allegiance to the Empire and his role in Gynt's demise remained hidden until much later, when Jedi historian Gnost-Dural investigated the events surrounding the Yavin 4 mission and Gynt's subsequent return.

Eison Gynt, a male Nautolan Padawan from a lineage of Jedi Knights that spanned three generations, served the Jedi Order of the Old Republic. Recognized as the most gifted student within the Order, he was chosen as an apprentice by Master Barel Ovair, a spy working for the Sith Empire on behalf of the Sith. As fellow Jedi scholars, Ovair and Gynt journeyed across the galaxy, studying the Force and accepting increasingly challenging assignments from the Order. In 3756 BBY, they embarked on a perilous mission to Yavin 4 with the aim of exploring the tomb belonging to the Sith Lord Naga Sadow. While this mission was officially sanctioned by the Jedi Order, Ovair was secretly under orders from the Sith Emperor to eliminate any remaining traces of Sadow that could pose a threat to the Empire during their impending invasion of the Galactic Republic. On Yavin 4, Massassi warriors ambushed Gynt and Ovair, forcing them deep into Sadow's tomb, where the Sith Lord's dark energies lingered.
Weeks later, Ovair returned to Coruscant alone and injured, reporting to the Galactic Senate that Gynt had been killed. However, Gynt had survived, now possessed by Sadow's spirit. Years after the failed Yavin 4 mission, Gynt reappeared on Coruscant, dressed as a Massassi warrior and seeking revenge against his former Master. Gynt attacked Ovair publicly, but Ovair triumphed in the ensuing duel and killed him. The Republic celebrated Ovair as a hero.
More than a century later, the Jedi historian Gnost-Dural investigated the circumstances of Gynt's death. He questioned why Sadow's spirit, after possessing Gynt, would target Ovair specifically. Gnost-Dural concluded that Ovair and his Jedi ancestors were, in reality, spies working for the Sith Emperor, and that Ovair had manipulated Gynt into participating in the Yavin 4 mission to destroy Sadow's spirit. The Emperor considered the old Sith Lords as potential threats, and Sadow's demise—despite Gynt's death—removed one of these threats, facilitating the Great Galactic War invasion of the Republic.

Gynt, a skilled Force user, was considered the most talented Padawan in the Jedi Order at the time he was chosen. However, his talents were not enough to prevent him from being possessed by the spirit of the Sith Lord Naga Sadow. When Sadow possessed him, the dark-side powers granted by the dark spirit were substantial, but not sufficient to overcome Ovair. When Gynt returned to Coruscant, he wore the robes of a Massassi warrior. Gynt carried a green-bladed lightsaber.
Eison Gynt was first seen in Timeline 7: Peace for the Republic?, a video released on April 16, 2010 as a part of the Galactic Timeline series of lore videos published on the official website for the BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. In the transcript for the timeline, Gynt's name is written incorrectly once as "Eeson Gynt."
