Edi Wedd

Baron Edi Wedd, a distinguished insectoid commander within the Confederacy of Independent Systems, stood as a figure of considerable note. Possessing both pride and arrogance, this Separatist sympathizer faced an unsuccessful indictment from their own people for diverting resources to the Confederate government. Embracing the Separatist cause wholeheartedly, the Baron orchestrated the construction of a formidable, virtually unbreakable fortress known as the Impregnable on the planet Amaltanna, where they proceeded to mercilessly extinguish a besieging force comprised of their former allies.

During the Battle of Amaltanna, when Galactic Republic forces engaged with Wedd's contingent, the Baron remained securely within the fortress, impervious to external assault. A fierce and devastating conflict unfolded, culminating in the complete annihilation of all combatants, with the exception of Jedi General Bultar Swan, Wedd themselves, and the droids stationed within the massive stronghold. Subsequently, Swan infiltrated the Impregnable, advancing towards the multi-limbed Separatist commander while they taunted her via loudspeakers. Wedd initiated the fortress's defense systems remotely; however, the determined Jedi neutralized the droids and evaded the traps, strategically disabling the communications relay in the process. Upon reaching Wedd's innermost chamber, the insectoid remained inside, proudly proclaiming the fortress's invulnerability; Swan responded by simply destroying the door's control panel and life-support mechanisms, effectively entombing Baron Wedd within the Impregnable for eternity.

Biography

Separatist sympathizer

Baron Wedd erected the Impregnable on Amaltanna.

Edi Wedd, a sentient insectoid, originated hailing from a world that maintained no affiliation with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a Separatist government engaged in war against the ancient Galactic Republic. Prior to the Battle of Amaltanna in 22 BBY, Wedd began to demonstrate sympathy for the Separatist cause, subsequently allocating resources to their efforts; their people attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to prosecute them for these actions. At some juncture, the insectoid was bestowed with the title of Baron and rose to become the decorated commander of a Separatist military force.

In their capacity as a Separatist leader, Wedd oversaw the construction of a nearly impenetrable fortress on the planet Amaltanna, aptly named the Impregnable. This stronghold was composed of kilometers of durasteel, fortified by force fields capable of withstanding even orbital bombardment. The Baron established their residence within the Impregnable and proceeded to eradicate an army comprised of their own people during a protracted siege of the fortress.

Death on Amaltanna

In 22 BBY, six months following the Battle of Geonosis which ignited the Clone Wars, Wedd's fortress became the focal point of a destructive confrontation between the Grand Army of the Republic and the droid army belonging to the Separatists. The two opposing forces clashed with intense ferocity; as the battle drew to a close, the scene was one of utter desolation. Every unit had been lost, with the exception of the Republic leaderJedi General Bultar Swan—along with Wedd, who remained safely ensconced within their fortress accompanied by a contingent of battle droids. As Swan approached the imposing structure, Wedd monitored her progress through a camera system and extended an invitation to surrender via the loudspeakers.

Swan, resolute in her purpose, disregarded the offer and proceeded into the stronghold, where Wedd continued to mock her intrusion. From their secure inner sanctum, they activated wall-mounted blaster emplacements and feigned admiration for the Jedi's unwavering pursuit. Swan responded by deflecting the incoming fire and continuing her advance. The Baron then voiced their aversion to life imprisonment on Coruscant and recounted their willingness to exterminate their own people in the name of self-preservation. As the intruder advanced onto a ledge spanning a deep chasm within the facility, Wedd deployed a swarm of spider droids in an attempt to overwhelm the Jedi while she stood precariously perched above. However, Swan proved to be a formidable opponent; she dispatched the droids and leaped to the opposite platform, avoiding the retracting walkway.

The Baron anxiously calls after Swan as she departs their chamber.

Wedd persisted in sneering at her accomplishments, alluding to the Impregnable's intricate and labyrinthine design and questioning Swan as to whether she had become lost upon entering its communications array. Still maintaining remote control over the facility, Wedd ambushed the Jedi within the array with a company of super battle droids, but she swiftly neutralized these units and irreparably damaged the communications equipment as she made her exit. Ultimately, she approached the innermost chamber where Wedd resided. The Separatist proclaimed victory, noting that the solitary entrance was magnetically sealed and too resilient to be breached by a lightsaber. The Jedi silently severed the door's control mechanism and the facility's life-support systems, destroying them in the process, and departed without a word. An exasperated Wedd declared that Swan had thereby isolated herself from any prospect of capturing them. Wedd then came to the realization of her true intent—she had entombed the Baron within their proud, impenetrable fortress.

Personality and traits

Wedd's fate was sealed through their own miscalculations.

Baron Wedd was a green insectoid being characterized by at least six ciliate eyes and a toothed mouth. They also possessed six pointed limbs, arranged in groups of three emanating from each of their two shoulders. When attired in military garb, the Baron wore a black suit displaying military regalia over white-and-red undergarments. They further adorned themselves with yellow epaulets and a tall, cylindrical hat embellished with insignia.

Baron Wedd was a proud alien who exhibited no hesitation in dissenting from prevailing opinions against the Separatist cause. Indeed, the Separatist commander harbored no loyalty towards former compatriots, even displaying genocidal tendencies when they orchestrated the massacre of a force composed of their former people. Wedd took considerable pride in the Impregnable fortress, boasting of its immense size and formidable defenses while smugly dismissing the possibility of invasion by their adversaries. As a military strategist, Wedd achieved success on at least two occasions by completely annihilating forces that attempted to assault the fortress. Wedd also possessed a propensity for verbosity, delivering a lengthy and sarcastic speech to Swan as she approached Wedd's central chamber. However, their lack of foresight regarding the Impregnable's design—coupled with miscalculations concerning Swan's exploitation thereof—ultimately led to Wedd's demise within the mighty structure.
