Dravis, previously a pilot serving the Imperial forces, became the primary lieutenant for the smuggler kingpin Billey. His father had been a pilot within the prestigious Scimitar assault wing.
Subsequent to his graduation from the Imperial Academy, rumors circulated that Dravis absconded with a shuttle to the Outer Rim, seeking to avoid responsibility for a child he had allegedly fathered.
During the year 1 ABY, Dravis was among the smugglers involved in the early iteration of Talon Karrde's Smugglers' Alliance. Operating from Mos Eisley cantina on Tatooine, he tasked another pilot in the Smugglers' Alliance with a series of assignments. These assignments included defending the Tatoo system against Black Sun starfighters and securing cargo from Commerce Raiders and other hostile forces.

Subsequently, Dravis consented to transport a female entertainer known as Ex and a Sullustan named Sh'ira to the city of Coronet on Corellia in exchange for 100,000 credits. After Ex, in a fit of rage, killed an Imperial stormtrooper outside the Mos Eisley Spaceport, she and her companion desperately sought to leave the planet to avoid being arrested. Upon receiving the agreed-upon payment, Dravis took both individuals aboard his M22-T Krayt gunship.
Dravis was also a friend to Han Solo, another, more well-known ex-Imperial smuggler. In 9 ABY, when Han began searching for smugglers to address the New Republic's shortage of freighters and pilots, Dravis was the first individual he contacted. Dravis provided Han with the initial warning regarding Grand Admiral Thrawn, though he did not know the true identity of the new Imperial commander. He also informed Han that the discreet Talon Karrde was actually the head of the largest smuggling operation in the galaxy.
Later on, Karrde tasked Dravis with assisting in the effort to locate Thrawn's secret cloning facility.
