Dar Wac, a Rodian individual, functioned as an assistant to Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. He occupied a position within Palpatine's office during the closing years of the Galactic Republic.
As a member of the Rodian species, Dar Wac provided service to the Galactic Republic, a democratic alliance that exercised governance over a substantial portion of the galaxy from its central world, Coruscant. Subsequent to Palpatine's election following the Trade Federation invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY, Wac was among the Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine's assistants, accompanied by figures such as Vice Chair Mas Amedda and Chief of Staff Sly Moore.
During the Separatist Crisis, a time defined by political instability between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a splinter faction, Chancellor Palpatine convened with various members of the Jedi Council within his office to deliberate on the ramifications of the burgeoning Separatist movement. During this assembly, the Loyalist Committee, an advisory group composed of ten senators tasked with assisting Palpatine in finding solutions to the crisis, arrived to engage with the Chancellor. Shortly before, Padmé Amidala, the representative of the Chommell sector, had barely survived an attempt on her life. Her vessel was targeted by a bombing upon its arrival on Coruscant, resulting in several fatalities. Wac communicated with Palpatine via hologram and informed him of the Committee's presence. Palpatine directed Wac to admit them, which Wac then did.
Following the meeting and the attempted assassination of Senator Amidala, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi initiated an investigation into the plot against her. While pursuing the bounty hunter Jango Fett, whom he suspected of orchestrating the assassination attempts, Kenobi accidentally discovered a clone army created by cloners on Kamino for the Republic's use. After tracking Fett to Geonosis, Kenobi also learned that the Confederacy had established an agreement with numerous megacorporations to produce an army of battle droids to wage war against the Republic, and that the repeated attempts to assassinate Amidala were masterminded by Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. From his remote location, Kenobi contacted Senator Amidala and his Padawan learner, Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine, who then relayed his message to Palpatine's office. Wac, along with members of the Loyalist Committee and the Jedi Order, were present to receive his findings.
Shortly thereafter, Jar Jar Binks, the Junior Representative of Naboo, introduced a proposal to broaden the scope of the Emergency Powers Act. This would allow Chancellor Palpatine to remain in office beyond his term limit and enable him to create a Grand Army of the Republic using the Kaminoan clones. The measure was approved, and the clone forces from Kamino were formally designated as the Grand Army of the Republic. The Republic's new military force was first deployed at the First Battle of Geonosis, where the Jedi led the army into combat to eliminate the droid armies and rescue Kenobi, who had been captured by the Confederacy, as well as Skywalker and Amidala, who had defied orders in their attempt to rescue Kenobi. Although the trio of captives were successfully rescued by the Republic army, the Confederacy forces managed to escape, and the Republic failed to suppress what would become known as the Clone Wars before it could escalate.
Dar Wac made his initial appearance in the novelization of the film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones authored by R. A. Salvatore, which was released on April 23, 2002. Subsequently, he appeared in the film itself on May 16. Concept art and the illustrated screenplay for Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith depict a planned scene where Wac, along with two members of the Senate Guard, attempted to impede Mace Windu and his Jedi team from reaching Palpatine to apprehend him, only to be Force pushed into the walls by the Jedi; however, this scene was ultimately omitted from the final version of the film.
