The chindinkalu plant originated on the world of Kirdo III and is classified as a plant. A Kitonak musician named Droopy McCool, who hailed from that planet, utilized the emptied-out stalk of the chindinkalu plant to create the chindinkalu flute; this was the instrument he performed with as part of the Max Rebo Band.
The flute crafted from the chindinkalu plant was initially seen in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi as Droopy McCool's instrument. However, the plant's specific name wasn't established in Star Wars canon until it was mentioned on Droopy McCool's Base Series 1 card, which debuted on Star Wars: Card Trader on March 11, 2015. Within the Star Wars Legends storyline, the plant was referred to as the chidinka in the StarWars.com piece titled Slugthrowers: An Overview of Popular Music and Musicians in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
